I'm Aditya Kothare. I've spent close to two decades building and running businesses in the UAE — trade licences, visas, bank accounts, renewals, free zones, mainland companies, the lot. Along the way I've made most of the mistakes this site now helps you avoid.

The Awakened Nomad exists because most of what you find online about working independently in the UAE is written by people selling you something — a setup package, a consultation, a course. The information is engineered to make the process sound harder than it is, so you buy help you may not need.

This site takes the opposite approach: plain-English guides based on first-hand experience of the actual process. Where something genuinely needs professional help, the guides say so. Where you can do it yourself in an afternoon, they say that too.
